Retired on the Claude API
Opus 4 was deprecated with its sibling Sonnet 4 and has now been retired on the Claude API — the lifecycle table above shows both dates. When this page was first written no retirement date had been announced; that changed, and the runway between announcement and cutover proved exactly as finite as this page warned it might. A request to this id on the first-party API now fails.
Only one platform still lists it
Anthropic's pricing page lists this model as retired everywhere except Google Cloud, which keeps its own schedule. A workload still running here through Google Cloud is on borrowed time, at the highest per-token price of any Opus this site covers.
The migration was never a close call
This model predates the effort parameter and uses the older thinking-budget approach. See

for that transition. Between the price gap and the retired status, cost and lifecycle point the same
way: the migration guide's target is Opus 5.5, reached through each Opus generation's changes in
order.
Its figures are reference only
No calculator on this site prices this model. The figures above are kept for anyone reconciling an older invoice.
